A Little Bit of Luxury in Your Closet

George Chowanec • Mar 27, 2014

When you think about your closet, you might consider it as being strictly utilitarian. After all, the closet is usually hidden behind closed doors and you probably do not put very much time, money or effort into its decor or features. Some people, however, consider the master closetto be very much a part of their homes. Your master bedroom should be a place to start your day off with enthusiasm, as well as a relaxing haven to return to at the end of a long afternoon, and your walk-in closet is a vital component of the room.

If you are considering adding a touch of luxury to your closet, here are some ideas to start you off:

Customized Storage Spaces

It goes without saying that the main role of your closet is to hold your clothing, shoes and other accessories. A customized storage system will do all of that and more. You’ll have plenty of space to store your belongings without having them crushed against each other.

Luxurious Lighting

Add a touch of ambiance to your closet by installing a pretty chandelier. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, check out estate sales; even if a chandelier is not marked for sale, those holding the sale might be willing to part with it at a fraction of its original cost. Another option is to put in wall sconces to add lighting to a closet with inadequate overhead lighting.

A Place to Sit Down

If floor space permits, taking the opportunity to sit down while dressing can make your morning and evening routines run a bit more smoothly. At the very least, you’ll feel pampered with a soft place to sit in your master bedroom closet.

Custom Closet with Seating

Plenty of Mirrors

When you go to a department store and try on an outfit, it’s fun to see all angles with the three-way mirrors, isn’t it? You can set up a similar effect in your closet with several full-length mirrors. Never walk out of the house and have second thoughts about how your backside looks again!

A Vanity

It would be wonderful to walk into your closet wearing a bathrobe and walk out not only fully dressed, but also with your hair and makeup done! Set up a vanity with lots of lighting as well as an electrical outlet for your hair dryer and curling iron, and your closet will become a celebrity-worthy dressing room of sorts.

Soft Flooring

Adding a plush area rug to your closet can put some squish under your step, which is just what you might wish for, especially at the end of the day when your feet are tired and sore. If you currently have tile or wood floors, make this a top priority and see the difference that it makes.

In general, closets are small enough spaces that you can really make them luxurious without spending a mint. Anything that you wish you could have in the other areas of your house, you might be able to fit into your walk-in closet for a touch of luxury and elegance.
