How do I ready myself for my closet appointment?

So the excitement has begun! You are standing in your closet amongst a disarray of clothes. You have already made the appointment for an in home consultation and wondering what should you do to prepare. One thing that crosses the mind of most people is “Maybe I should clean the closet prior to having the consultation?” Unfortunately, cleaning is not the right thing to do at this stage. At All About Closets it is important for our consultants to see what is in the closet and formulate a plan on fixing the problem. So what should you do?

For starters think about the way you want your closet to look. Color scheme, hardware color, drawer face design, covered sections etc.

Think about the functionality of the closet. When you enter the closet do you want to leave completely dressed? Or, do you mind going back and forth between the closet and your dresser unit? If you choose to dress completely in the closet then you will need drawers to store undergarments.

Are you more of a “hanger” or a “folder”? How do you store your accessories? Is jewelry storage important? Do you hang your pants over the hanger or by the ankles long way? Is a hamper required? How many pairs of shoes do you want to store? Do you keep shoes in boxes or on display?

Having answers to these questions in preparation for the closet consultation will allow the consultant to generate a great design. A good designer will be able to take your thoughts and requirements and create a 3D computerized design showing you visually what you communicated verbally.
