Getting Your Guest Bathroom Ready for Visitors
Make Sure It’s Squeaky Clean
The bathroom is one place that your guests will have time to really look at the corners and crevices without you in the room. Make sure every spot of this room is, well, spotless! Get out your cleaning supplies and set aside a couple of hours to really make your guest bathroom shine.
Of course you’ll do the regular sink-commode-tub/shower scrubbing, but also get under the sink and be sure to dust the shelves of the linen closet. Since the bathroom is small, you can probably scrub the floor with a scrub brush; if not, be sure to really get into all of the nooks and crannies with your mop. If you prefer, of course, you can hire a professional to get this job done for you.
Appeal to the Senses
Once the bathroom is completely clean, you can add the little niceties that will make the space appealing. For example, fold your plushest towels and stack them in the linen closet. Place fresh flowers in a vase on the counter. Fill a bowl with small scented soaps or slip an orange- or lavender-scented sachet under the sink. Buy a new bathmat, and consider switching out the shower curtain if yours looks drab or outdated. Put up a new shower liner if it hasn’t been changed recently. In short, make the room look and smell inviting.
Stock Up on Necessities
Take a look in your linen closet and imagine you’re a guest who has shown up without any toiletries or necessities. While it’s unlikely that someone would show up with nothing, you never know what someone might forget, so stock up on many of the items used in the bathroom to make your guests feel comfortable. Some of the items you might want to put in the guest bathroom include:
- Shampoo and conditioner (buy the small travel-sized bottles if no one uses that bathroom often to shower).
- Bath soap, body wash and a new shower puff.
- An extra toothbrush or two, along with toothpaste, floss and mouthwash.
- Small tubes of deodorant for both men and women.
- Sunscreen (and aloe vera gel in case of sunburn).
- Hand and body lotion.
- Cotton balls and cotton swabs.
- Sanitary products for women.
- Hair ties for long hair.
- Disposable razors and shaving cream.
- Emery boards and a pair of nail clippers.
You’ll want to keep these items in pretty baskets or bins in your linen closet or in a drawer of your bathroom vanity. Even if they don’t get used by your guest, it’s nice to have them on hand for visitors throughout the year or for yourself if you run out of something!
